A more relaxed approach
When Victoria reached out to me for a session, I was a tad nervous. She requested a more relaxed session as her previous ones were more styled and posed. I tend to lean towards more posed maternity myself, so I drew a blank! But that did not put me off, no! I like to step out of my comfort zone and give myself a bit of a challenge. I knew I didn't have enough space for a bed, or even a cozy couch in my home studio, so I had to think outside the box. I decided to create a simple, yet inviting environment with blankets and cushions on the floor, and some greenery for a pop of color. I loved the result and mom agreed that it fit the brief! Yay!
Victoria bought along her 2 little girls and we did some simple shots with Victoria reading to the girls to capture things as they were, in the moment. At this age (her youngest was just 1 year old), it's hard to get them to cooperate, so a lot of it was just play. We captured some great, intimate images that show the mother-daughter relationship before baby brother was born, as well as images of the girls personalities. It's so important to capture these moments before a new sibling arrives. This is probably my favorite maternity session to date and I'm hoping I get to do some more with this style soon!
